Our client is a private residence in Vancouver looking for a talented and experienced Private Chef to craft healthy, creative meals for the family.

Position Overview

A private residence in Vancouver is seeking a talented and experienced Private Chef. This is a full-time position with standard hours of Monday through Friday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, with some flexibility as the role requires. The Chef would be required for occasional weekend and holiday events, availability with advance notice.

The Chef will primarily, daily cook for two people, with dinner generally served at 5:00 pm. The principals are culinary adventurous and well-traveled eaters with a genuine appreciation for bold, global flavours and extraordinary cuisine. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for food preparation, cooking and delivering personalized dining experiences.

The Chef’s role extends to entertaining — preparing meals for client dinners and social gatherings at the residence. The ideal candidate is equally able to prepare a special weeknight dinner and a fine dining multi-course meal for guests.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare daily lunch and dinner, along with wholesome snacks and the occasional next-day breakfast, with a focus on healthy, inventive, and globally-inspired cuisine
  • Demonstrate knowledge of specialized dietary requirements, including diabetic-friendly meal preparation
  • Source high-quality, fresh ingredients through grocery shopping and relationships with premium suppliers
  • Develop rotating menus and maintain thorough records to ensure variety and avoid meal repetition
  • Manage kitchen inventory and food supplies at the primary residence and, when required, at additional properties; track and report household food expenses accurately
  • Keep the kitchen and all workspaces consistently clean, organized, and well-maintained
  • Occasional travel may be required, including short-term trips within the US — primarily to the Los Angeles area to stock and prepare the principals’ property in advance of their arrival; all travel will be mutually agreed upon

Qualifications & Attributes

  • Professional, competent presentation with excellent English communication skills; able to interact courteously with principals, guests, and household staff
  • Demonstrated experience cooking for private clients, including formal entertaining
  • Broad culinary range with an ability to execute diverse, internationally-inspired menus
  • Red Seal Certification is strongly encouraged; a degree or diploma from an accredited culinary institution is an asset
  • Unwavering commitment to discretion, confidentiality, and professional boundaries at all times
  • Valid passport and ability to travel internationally as needed
  • A valid driver’s license and vehicle required
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada

Minimum of 5 Years experience in a senior Chef role in a high Volume, multiple outlet Food & Beverage environment with diverse concepts.

Food and Beverage “front of the house” management experience with demonstrated knowledge.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Executive Head Chef, our sous chefs will be responsible preparing food as well as supervising production in their assigned area, ensuring food is produced in accordance with the customer specifications, quality and food safety standards.

Responsibilities

Assist with the training, induction and development of the kitchen employees.

Ensure that the preparation and presentation of food is of the highest standards, consistently. 

Ensure all foods are prepared in line with the production schedule and are ready for delivery within the agreed time frames

Support the Executive Head Chef with customer/client food presentations as and when required

Conduct regular food sampling with the Quality department to ensure all food prepared is in compliance with Quality Assurance standard

Assist the Executive Head Chef with the development of recipes and menus for airline and other customers. 

Act as the second in command to the Executive Head Chef and assume their responsibilities during periods of absence  

Control wastage and to help maintain food costs in line with budget

Job Requirements

Education in culinary management from an accredited institute or university

Red Seal certification an asset

Minimum 3 years culinary experience across a broad range of dining levels and must include fine dining experience

Experience with international cuisine (a strong asset)

Experience in high volume environment required

(Cruise Ships, Hotels, Convention Center etc.) a strong asset

Minimum 2 years’ experience as Lead/Sous Chef in a larger kitchen

Proven experience and understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures

Ability to lead effectively with a wide range and diverse community
